Stand Up 4 Labour
@
The Old Market
The Old Market
BN3 1AS
Stand up for Labour hosts an event at the Brighton Fringe, taking place at the The Old Market in Hove.
Joe Wells has become a regular performer for Stand up for Labour and combines anecdote, satire and poetry to devastating effect as he undermines such targets as the EDL and the coalition government.
Manos Kanellos stormed the Stand up for Labour events he performed at in Ilford and Eastbourne and his act is remorselessly funny about the political situation in Europe.
Arnold Brown is the godfather of Alternative Comedy and was there at the beginning of the Comedy Store. He also appeared in The Young Ones and has performed as a warm up to Frank Sinatra! Arnold went down a treat at the Corby Stand up for Labour in October.
As a lesbian comedienne, Clare Summerskill performs an original cocktail of stand-up and comedy songs to mainly gay and lesbian audiences and has even been known to make straight people chuckle as well. She is making her Stand up for Labour debut.
Local Lord Steve Bassam and John McDonnell MP will be speaking on the night.

A one-man show based on the internet phenomenon, TED Talks, this is an absurd while seemingly heartfelt talk, with powerpoint for further clarity. How much nonsense will you believe? Come and see the cream of the crop of comedy on the South Coast and in the UK.
Compering the evening is Britain's official best comedy compere and local funny man Stephen Grant.
Popping up on stage first because she is flying off to Australia the next day will be the award winning funny woman Zoe Lyons, followed by The Maydays, The Alphonso Brothers, Dyball and Kerr and The Noise Next door.
Zoe said " I am delighted to be part of the Comedy line up in support of Saltdean Lido as I think it is so important that everything is done to save this wonderful place. Not only is it an iconic piece of architecture but it has been and should continue to be a glorious centre piece for the local community and all who enjoy the South coast."
With limited tickets available the evening which will be hosted in Saltdean's Oval Park is sure to be a sell out at just £10 per ticket and proceeds will go towards the campaign and tender that the CIC is applying for to run the Lido in the future.
Tickets are on sale now at HR Hardware in Longridge Avenue, David Shoebridge Butchers on Lustrells Vale, Saltdean and Pebbles in Rottingdean. Alternatively you can buy online at www.saltdeanlido.co.uk

Basil, Sybil and Manuel return to their favourite spot for a beach break. It coincides with Brighton Fringe so they’ll be busy, fitting in 14 performances during the Fringe itself, then staying on for a further eight shows in the week immediately afterwards. It’s all part of an internationally-acclaimed, sell-out world tour that continues to delight critics and audiences alike.
The fun starts as the audience waits to be seated and hurtles along for the next two hours. It’s fully immersive, highly improvised and site-specific comedy theatre that’s only a third scripted, so everything stays fresh. The audience are the diners, with Basil, Sybil and Manuel serving up a three-course meal amid their trademark mayhem. Expect all the best gags and ‘a rip-roaringly hilarious night out’ (This Is London), but don't expect herds of giant wildebeest… and certainly don’t mention the war!
- 'had us in stitches' (Huffington Post, Brighton Fringe 2012)
- ‘five stars’ (What’s on Stage, Brighton Fringe 2012)
- ‘an uproarious success (The Public Reviews, Brighton Fringe 2012)
- 'the best comedy show I've ever seen' (Sunday Express)
- ‘a two-hour eat, drink and laugh sensation (Daily Telegraph)
