A landscape painting and drawing workshop for all abilities
 This is a two day workshop taught by Landscape painter Hester Berry. Oils, watercolour or acrylic are all welcome. You can bring your own materials or hire our painting kits for the studio; no past experience is necessary.

Shut Up and Act! (WEEKLY!)

With playful exercises, these sessions will stretch your acting muscles and offer new ways to play, to create and to perform.

Come and develop your palette and tools, play with a broader set of choices, and find more freedom to act, both on stage, and in life.

We will learn through exercises, games and more, about (among other things)…

• Giving licence to your imagination
• Using your whole body & voice
• Making it up
• Working in ensemble
• Using rhythms to amplify sensitivity
• Being warm with an audience
• Playfulness
• Listening and responding to the moment
• Exploring your emotional range
• Coming back and developing a character
• Incorporating your personal experience
• Storytelling
• Working with text
• Becoming non-human
• Failing and falling
• Taking risks
• Sustaining an act
• Accepting offers.

Playing with the comfort zones of the audience
Rocking the boat
Burning Bridges to be True to yourself, and building new ones elsewhere.
Playing with Overacting
Falling as deeply into stereotypes as you can get.
Enjoying Being Melodramatic
Exploring being emotionally self-indulgent on stage
Using conflict to heighten the dramatic stakes
Exploring ugliness
Staying on stage too long.
Using your faults.
Breaking rules.
Playing characters you're not supposed to play (toying with taboos)

Open to all levels, from beginners to experienced performers.

Techniques drawn upon will include Theatre of The Oppressed, Five Rhythms, The Fool, mime, text, storytelling, walkabout & street theatre, contact improvisation, puppetry, physical theatre.

The group will start as a weekly drop in.
6.50pm-9pm
Friday eves from 1st Feb
The Happy Cell, Davigdor Rd. Hove.
Cost 8.00 per session (discuss with me if this is prohibitive).


After an initial period it will close and develop into a committed short course leading to small performances.

Something Underground Theatre also regularly casts for productions and enthusiastic participants may want to explore getting involved.
