Acting Summer School - Adults

Mon 16 Aug 10am @ The Academy of Creative Training until 03 September 2010 £175

An opportunity to take your acting skills to the next level.

Our annual Summer School offers the choice of three intensive week long training courses. Each course runs from Monday to Friday 10am to 5pm, culminating in an evening performance in front of an invited audience on the final Friday. You can choose to participate in just one, two or all three (fee discounts apply). This year we are offering three areas of study; Stanislavski, Text and Shakespeare. Working as a small ensemble company, you will participate in 10 three hour sessions which will include 2 sessions each of Voice and Movement.

The actors are encouraged to invite two guests each to attend the final night's performances and see the results of the week's work. This will be followed by a relaxed feedback session where participants, audience and tutors can discuss the work over drinks.

Shakespeare: An Actor's Approach

Shakespeare wrote his plays to be performed, filling the text with clues, accessible to any actor who is prepared to play. Starting with group work we will explore how rhythm, sound and imagery can release and support the actor. At the end of the week we will show a combination of short scenes and monologues. For absolute beginners and those who need an adrenalin boost

Monday 16th August to Friday 20th August 2010
10am-5pm. Friday Performance 7pm

The Stanislavski Approach: An Actor Prepares

This course demystifies the welter of contradictory interpretation about the Father of Modern Acting. You will investigate the tools and techniques developed by Stanislavski and how they are now utilized by modern actors in the 21st century. You will apply the approach to selected scenes - this is a practical course, not a theoretical one!

Monday 23rd August to Friday 27th August 2010
10am-5pm. Friday Performance 7pm

Working With Text: An Actor's Toolkit

Where and how do you begin when presented with your new script? We will explore, play and work in detail on selected scenes. Students will additionally develop skills in sight-reading, rehearsal technique, characterisation and stagecraft. The scenes will then be presented to an invited audience at the Friday night performance.

Soul of the City Gospel, pop and soul choir taster session

Tue 14 Sep 7.30pm @ St. Paul's CE Primary School . £5

Soul of the City is a fun, new choir singing gospel, pop and soul.

Gone are the days when singing was at the centre of the community, bringing people together from all walks of life... we'd like to do something about that.

After a fantastic third term with over 130 singers we're pleased to announce that Soul of the City choir is once again open for new members.

There are no auditions to join the choir and it is open to all levels of experience and ability. Whether you're a complete beginner, shower singer or more established singer, this choir is for you! The choir is a great opportunity to sing, socialise and meet new people (a trip to the pub is a must after every choir practice!).

The sessions are up-beat and led by an experienced vocal tutor; you're bound to have a fantastic time.

Taster sessions for the choir will be held on:

Tuesday 14th and Tuesday 21st September, 7.30 - 9.00pm.

Venue: St. Paul's Primary School, St. Nicholas Road, Brighton. BN1 3LP (1 minute's walk from the Clock Tower / Churchill Square)

Free car park provided

Cost per session: £5

Contact: brightonmusic@hotmail.com

Website: www.soulofthecitychoir.com

The two taster session evenings will mark the start of our fourth 12-week term (we meet every Tuesday evening), which will see the choir working towards an end of term concert in December.

Everyone who signs up for the term will be given a CD containing all their parts for the term's songs so they can sing along at home (so no music reading necessary).

There are still places left for Soul of the City choir, although they are limited, so don't miss this opportunity to be part of something new and fun!

If you would like to join or try the choir please contact us at the above e-mail address to secure your place. If you can't make the above dates but are still interested in the choir, please do get in touch, as we will be running future classes and events.

We look forward to hearing from you and doing some soulful singing! :o)St. Paul's CE Primary School ., St. Nicholas Rd BN1 3LP
