A Closer Look – An Acoustic Set
Steve Harley, the original Cockney Rebel, tours the world with A Closer Look – An Acoustic Set, an intimate, unique, and atmospheric show. The performance promises intimacy mingled with great improvisation and rocky rhythms.
Steve will be accompanied by his Cockney Rebel band-mate of long-standing, Barry Wickens [violin and guitar] and by James Lascelles [piano and percussion]. About the talk
Change can be scary, but it’s also the start of exciting new opportunities – a new era in your life with new potential to explore. Hannah Martin and Kary Fisher know all about facing change. Divorce, redundancy, moving overseas… they’ve survived (and thrived) through big life changes, some of them chosen and others forced on them.

Their experiences led them to create the Talented Ladies Club, an online resource for working, freelance and business mums.
They’ll share their own experiences of coping with change, and the secrets to making a success of it, including mindset, research, creativity and adaptability.

This workshop will be an opportunity to explore what mindfulness is, its origins, why people practice, some of the scientific evidence for its effectiveness. You will be able to experience some of the main practices of the eight-week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course.

Dr Bridgette O’Neill is a mindfulness teacher and consultant clinical psychologist. An associate of the Sussex Mindfulness Centre and an associate tutor with the Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice (CMRP) at Bangor University, Bridgette teaches MBSR/MBCT to the public, in the NHS and in the third sector.

Rooted in ancient traditions of meditation, mindfulness has become the subject of increasing scientific attention in recent years and has been shown to be helpful for a wide range of physical and mental health difficulties and for general wellbeing.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction will lead you through the key principles of living mindfully, and introduce practices to help you cultivate mindfulness in daily life.

In the course you will learn:

to stay in touch with the present moment and be less caught up in negative or stressful thinking patterns
to bring a non-judgemental and accepting attitude to yourself and your experiences
to develop more awareness and understanding of stress and helpful ways of responding to it
to use simple meditation techniques which can transform daily life, including sitting meditation, body scan and mindful movement
You will also be invited to develop your own practice through weekly homework (about 45 mins a day). We will provide course materials and CDs for you to do this. The course is open to anyone - however, applicants will be asked to fill in a brief questionnaire and have a phone orientation before their place is confirmed.



Course Tutor: Mark Head BSc Hons., MSc TA Pscyh, CTA (P), UKCP Reg. Psychotherapist, TSTA(P) - Mark is a co-founder of the Link Centre and is an experienced and qualified UKCP registered psychotherapist. He is also a qualified TA trainer and supervisor. With a keen interest in the use and application of mindfulness and mindfulness practices, over the last few years Mark has developed his own mindfulness practice, through both attending courses, retreats and his own personal practice. This has culminated in him training as a mindfulness facilitator. He is particularly interested in how mindfulness can be used alongside other therapeutic approaches, to enhance the provision of counselling and psychotherapy

Tai Chi Ch'uan is an ancient form of slow, graceful and rhythmic exercise which originated in China, where it is still extremely popular, often being performed in public parks early in the morning when the air is at its freshest. The style taught here is the Yang style Short Form as developed by Professor Ch'eng Man Ch'ing, currently the most popular form of Tai Chi in the U.K.

Tai Chi is sometimes referred to as 'meditation in movement' or 'swimming in air' for externally that is how it appears. It is a soft martial art, quite unlike karate, ju jitsu or any of the 'hard' martial arts which rely on force and speed.

Tai Chi strengthens our internal energy, and allows it to flow more freely through the body. It is gentle and non-violent, though after much practice it is an extremely effective form of self defence.
