It takes a special blend of musical flair to create memorable new songs that feel as if they have been around for years! When performed with uncontrolled laughter, the deep-rooted couplets and sudden impromptu shifts in these songs and tunes take audiences on an emotional joy-ride. Welcome to De Temps Antan!
Combining tradition with contemporary flair, this ‘power-trad’ trio showcase the very best that Quebecois music has to offer.
Éric Beaudry, David Boulanger and Pierre-Luc Dupuis have been exploring and performing songs and tunes from the stomping grounds of Quebec’s musical past since 2003. All three have been past members of the legendary Québec big band La Bottine Souriante Using fiddle, accordion, harmonica, guitar, bouzouki, these three virtuosos blend boundless energy with the unmistakable joie de vivre found only in traditional Quebec music.
In this explosion of unique songs, jigs, reels and foot-tapping, De Temps Antan propel folk to a whole new level.

Admn: £21 Seated, £18.50 Stand
Celebrate 19 years of African Night Fever with king of Congolese soukous, Kanda Bongo Man.
Kanda Bongo Man is one of the biggest stars and leading exponents of African music. Kanda revolutionised Congolese soukous music after parting with Orchestra Belle Mambo to take up a solo career in Paris in 1979. He is most famous for his structural changes to soukous music, introducing mesmerising guitar solos that gave birth to the famous “kwasa kwasa” dance.
Championed by John Peel and Andy Kershaw in the late 80s, Kanda played a key role in introducing African and world music to the mainstream. Now with a huge and loyal fanbase, his music still receives regular airplay on stations including BBC Radio 3 and Radio 6 Music.
Kanda’s music has always been driven by optimism and happiness. His exhilarating performances are exciting and energetic, yet deeply rooted in the Congolese tradition. With his incredible seven-piece band behind him, Kanda Bongo Man will bring the joyous music and dance of central Africa to Ropetackle for an unforgettable sunshine experience!

As part of the Summer Film Festival, Ropetackle Cinema are proud to present four films that demonstrate very different aspects of diversity and inclusivity
You may have seen films about the Space Race before but this is the first one about space racism.
The US is locked in turmoil with racial divisions widening and misogyny rife. NASA is determined to send an astronaut on a trip around the earth before Russia beats them to it and three big, brilliant brains are drafted in to help the male-only Caucasian flight research team.
The problem? It’s 1962. They’re women and they’re black.
The incredible true-life story of Katherine Johnson, Mary Jackson and Dorothy Vaughan - the three African-American mathematicians, the brains behind the momentous launch and safe return of astronaut John Glenn - crossed all gender, race and professional lines. Yet these same women were subject to all manner of demeaning rules including being unable to drink coffee from the communal coffee pot, attend briefing meetings and having to jog twenty minutes to the nearest toilet. They suffered these indignities stoically but the release, when it came, was glorious.
Starring Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monae in career-defining roles.

As part of the Summer Film Festival, Ropetackle Cinema are proud to present four films that demonstrate very different aspects of diversity and inclusivity.
Equally intensely dynamic, Sidney Poitier and Tony Curtis turn in brilliant performances in a film that repudiates racial prejudice
One night in the American South, a truck loaded with convicts in the back swerves to avoid another truck and crashes through a barrier. The rescuers clearing up the debris discover that two convicts have escaped, a black man shackled by the wrist to a white man because ‘the warden had a sense of humour’ – no segregation here. The two men, Noah Cullen (Poitier) and John ‘Joker’ Jackson (Curtis), hate each other but they are forced to cooperate if they are to succeed in their plan to go North and jump a train and so reach freedom. At first their cooperation is motivated by self-preservation but gradually, as they flee through difficult terrain, weather and life threatening situations, all the while pursued by Sheriff Max Muller and his posse, they begin to respect and like each other.
This film won two Oscars and was nominated for seven others including Best Picture and Best Actor for both Curtis and Poitier. Directed by Stanley Kramer

“Compelling, lovely, stirring, and tantalisingly close to beauty” ~ The New York Times
New York’s Chapin Sisters are returning to the UK for the first time since 2015 for a series of tour dates and festival appearances to support their first new music since their ‘Dolphins’ collaboration with Cass McCombs in 2018.
Masters of so-called blood harmony, The Chapin Sisters have garnered critical acclaim since their first recordings in 2005. Moving seamlessly between their own deftly crafted songs, familiar country classics, pop covers and traditional folk, they forged a distinctive musical imprint and carry on a proud musical legacy.
Father Tom Chapin is a Grammy-winning singer/songwriter, legendary late Uncle Harry Chapin was a musical artist and activist best known for his 1974 #1 hit ‘Cat’s in the Cradle’, and Grandfather Jim Chapin was an esteemed jazz drummer and author of seminal drum instructional books. Raised in Hudson Valley, the sisters started singing professionally at ages 6 and 8 on their father Tom’s ground-breaking family recording Family Tree.
Through the last decade, they have released 4 full-length albums, and 3 EPs, most recently 2017’s critically acclaimed Ferry Boat EP, and have toured the world multiple times. They are currently at work on a new album.

As part of its Summer Film Festival, Ropetackle Cinema isre proud to present four films that demonstrate very different aspects of diversity and inclusivity
WONDER…is a warm, persuasive argument for tolerance. Research shows a connection between children’s self-esteem and positive portrayals in media. This perfect family film deals with diversity, inclusivity, worry and fear. It tells the inspiring and heart-warming story of August Pullman, a sci-fi obsessed boy who always wears an enormous NASA helmet. Auggie’s severe facial disfigurements have prevented him from going to a mainstream school and he has previously been home-schooled. When he negotiates the pitfalls of an elementary school for the first time as an outcast 10-year-old, Auggie outdoes his classmates and becomes the most unlikely of heroes winning the Harry Ward Beecher Medal in recognition of his many small acts of kindness that made the school community a better place. If at first his new classmates and the larger community sometimes struggle to discover acceptance, Auggie’s extraordinary journey unites them and proves you can’t blend in when you were born to stand out.
Julia Roberts plays Isabel, mum to Auggie and teenage sister Olivia (Izabela Vidovic). Dad Nate (Owen Wilson) rounds out the family. But this is Jacob Tremblay’s film and its themes of compassion, acceptance and kindness sound loud and clear. This is a film with a big heart.

As part of its Summer Film Festival, Ropetackle Cinema is proud to present four films that demonstrate very different aspects of diversity and inclusivity.
A marvellous mixture of genders, a blatant attack on sexual attitudes that is both challenging and hilarious Down on their luck in 1934 Paris, struggling soprano Victoria Grant (Julie Andrews) and gay cabaret singer Carroll ‘Toddy’ Todd (Robert Preston) hatch a scheme to pass her off as female impersonator Count Victor Grazinski. They will become successful, rich and famous. However, Chicago club owner King Marchand (James Garner) begins to fall for him/her, much to the dismay of his ditzy blonde lover Norma Cassidy (Lesley Ann Warren) and macho bodyguard, Squash Bernstein. Driven by a fantastic lead turn from Julie Andrews (1983 Golden Globe winner Best Actress), this twisted musical comedy where a woman pretends to be a man impersonating a woman deals with transvestism and sexual identity.
The genre that had been very much a cosy form of family entertainment had become, by the 1980s, stereotypically synonymous with homosexuality. Blake Edwards, director, chose to stress the gay element in his sharp, funny and all- round entertaining romp.
